CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Danny Mendick put a hold on his impressive home run streak with the Charlotte Knights as the Chicago White Sox selected him for an MLB roster spot on Monday.
The infielder has smashed a home run in the last five Knights games, all of which came at Truist Field against the Syracuse Mets. Mendick is on a tear in the early part of the season. He's hitting .317 with eight home runs, six doubles, and 20 RBI in 19 games this year.
Chicago hopes Mendick can add a spark to a struggling offense that ranks last in hitting percentage, home runs, and RBI. The White Sox hold MLB's worst record at 3-19.
In his season debut with the White Sox, Mendick went two for four playing third base as Chicago lost 7-0 to the Minnesota Twins.
Mendick was drafted by the White Sox in 2015 and spent his whole career with the organization until 2022. He played with the New York Mets in 2023 but was let go after an abysmal season. Mendick
The White Sox sent down infielder Lenyn Sosa to the Knights in Mendick's place. Sosa had a paltry .132/.154/.184 line in 12 games with Chicago this season. Sosa started the season with Charlotte, hitting .333 in six games.
Infielder Zach Remillard was also removed from the MLB roster and was designated for assignment by the White Sox. Reillard went one for five with a run in his two games with the White Sox in 2024. In 13 games with the Knights this year, Remillard slashed .120/.224/.160 with three RBI.
Charlotte holds an 8-12 in the early stretch of the season. The Knights are next in action on Tuesday for the first matchup in a six-game road series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (9-9).
