Each week during the season, the WCNC Sports team travels to key matchups to bring you the latest hits and highlights, and share who's making moves across the Carolinas! This week, we've got a classic clash between two Charlotte teams!
Game of the Week: Mallard Creek vs. Chambers
This week's Game of the Week is a clash between the Mallard Creek Mavericks and the Chambers Cougars! And as usual, two times enter the gridiron, and only one leaves a winner. This week, the Mavericks were able to stampede to a hefty win over the Cougars.
Going into the game, Chambers was 7-1 for the season while Mallard Creek was 5-4. Mallard Creek had a defensive first half as Chambers got 7 points on the board early but swung back in the second half with a QB keeper from Caleb Knight. The referees agreed he was in, and the point-after attempt was good to tie it up 7-7.
The Cougars would respond when the Mavericks had the ball again, netting an interception. But Chambers' offense couldn't capitalize. Mallard Creek reacted for a touchdown by Christian Dixon and another good point-after attempt to lift the Mavericks up 14-7.
Dixon again took it to the endzone when the Mavericks had control again, and a good point-after attempt seals it. The win lifts Mallard Creek to 6-4 for the season. Chambers now has a 7-2 record with only the second loss of the season for them.
