Hornets' Seth Curry reflects on playing with his hometown team

Curry is focused on putting the buzz back in the city for the Charlotte Hornets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Seth Curry returns to Charlotte to play for his hometown team after a trade at the NBA trade deadline sent him to the Hornets from the Dallas Mavericks. Now Curry is wearing the same number his father, Dell, did when he played for the team and already making an impact. Seth joined WCNC Charlotte's Ashley Stroehlein to discuss playing for the Charlotte Hornets and more.

Q: What was it like finding out that you were part of a trade that was going to send you here to play for your hometown team?

A: It was exciting. With the trade deadline, you never know what's going to happen. You get a little bit of anxiousness seeing if you're going to get moved. If you do get moved, where, but when I found out it was Charlotte, I was very excited. My phone started blowing up. Happy to be here.

Q: Obviously wearing the No. 30 just like your dad Dell did when he played here. What was it like putting on that jersey for the first time and then taking the court for a game?

A: Oh, it was kind of surreal. I always wanted to grow up in and play for the Hornets. And wear that number 30 jersey, either me or my brother, we always wanted to do it. So, to put that jersey on and represent for the family. It's pretty cool, just trying to live in the moment and enjoy it.

Q: Your dad Dell is on the broadcast for all of the Hornets games. What's it like sharing each game with him and the aspect of him calling the plays and you being out there on the court?

A: It’s a little bit different. Because I mean, obviously when he's calling the games, usually he’s calling it for the other side and it's a little weird for him. But it's cool to see him before games and after games every night now. We haven't been on a road trip yet, but when we do he's going to be traveling with us so that's going to be a little different, too. This is an experience we're all taking in right now.

Q: You and your dad just did a photoshoot together with the Hornets that went viral, what was that like? It looked like you may have outdone him with the spin.

A: Yeah, he said he hadn’t touched the basketball in a while, so he had a little excuse for why he can’t spin the ball anymore. I had to give him a little break there, but it was cool. Like I said we’re trying to live in the moment and experience all of this together. They wanted to put that photoshoot together for the Hornets. Obviously, putting on the jersey he used to wear back in the day.

Q: What does it feel like to bring some life to this organization and just to hear the response from the fans?

A: It's great. This organization and this team needed a little bit of a jolt of energy. So, for the trade to happen, all five of us new guys come in and bring that energy and that kind of excitement to the team is really cool. The energy throughout the arena and on game nights have been really good. We're going out there and try to put on a good product for them. We’re playing hard on both ends of the floor. It's obviously great to get the back-to-back wins and we're trying to keep that rolling. We’re trying to get the buzz back in the city.
