I-485 reopens after deadly pedestrian crash

The crash happened near the exit for University City Boulevard around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit and killed along the inner loop of Interstate 485 in northeast Charlotte early Tuesday morning, officials said. 

The crash happened a little before 4 a.m. near the exit for University City Boulevard on the inner loop. All lanes of the inner loop reopened just before 6 a.m. while Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigate the wreck.

All traffic was detoured off I-485 at University City Boulevard. The road reopened shortly before 6 a.m. before rush hour got started Tuesday. 

State troopers haven't identified the person who was killed and it's unclear if any charges will be filed.
