Crash blocks busy intersection in northeast Charlotte

An overturned 18-wheeler shut down an intersection near UNC Charlotte on Wednesday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A busy intersection in Charlotte's University City area was closed Wednesday due to an overturned truck, police said. 

The crash happened at the intersection of University City Boulevard and Pavilion Boulevard, between Interstate 485 and UNC-Charlotte around 9:30 a.m. Inbound and outbound lanes of University City Boulevard were closed due to the crash, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

Drivers should avoid the area until further notice with heavy delays expected in University City through at least lunchtime on Wednesday. CMPD hasn't given an estimated time on when the road could reopen.

Alternate route

Drivers can use East Mallard Creek Church Road and U.S. 29/North Tryon Street to Interstate 485. Drivers on I-485 can also take Rocky River Road to Back Creek Church Road.
