CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spring break has started for schools in North and South Carolina and that means many people are taking vacations. Many travelers will head to the air to head to warmer climates.
Airlines said after two years of dealing with a pandemic, they expect to be on track for a huge uptick in travelers. Demand is showing up through increased bookings ahead of one of the busiest travel times of the year.
So the best advice for anyone taking to the skies this week, plan on arriving at least three hours early to help deal with long lines. In Charlotte, estimated security wait times for each checkpoint can be previewed on the airport's website and mobile app. Parking can also be booked online ahead of time.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is expecting 32,110 flyers beginning their trip in Charlotte on April 8, 28,630 on April 9, and 32,960 on April 10. In addition, the airport expects roughly 60,000 passengers connecting through Charlotte.
On an average day, the airport averages 23,000 flyers beginning their trip in Charlotte.

Dr. Joseph Khabbaza of the Cleveland Clinic warns that if you travel you’ll still need to wear your mask at least until April 18.
"If you do have a loved one who is on chemotherapy or is elderly or immunocompromised, maybe lay low from them for that week or two after your trip or if you are going to be around them to just test – do a rapid test that morning," Khabbaza said.
