Scattered showers and storms ongoing this evening

Stay weather aware ahead of severe thunderstorms this Saturday evening.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

This evening

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact the Charlotte area. Expect heavy rain, lightning, strong wind gusts, and hail with this round of severe weather. Some areas are already experiencing the impact from these storms, the trend will continue until later this evening. The severe threat is expected to weaken by 10 p.m.

Here's a quick breakdown of the main threats:

  • Gusty winds 60+ mph
  • Flash flooding possible
  • Small-to-medium size hail
  • Frequent lightning

A combination of saturated soils from recent rain events coupled with additional rainfall, localized flooding is an increasing concern. Avoid flooded roads and be prepared to take a detour should you encounter flash flooding.

Given the timing of storms and numerous outdoor events, make sure to check the storm policy before attending and use our WCNC app to get notifications when severe weather strikes.
