CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people have died, and another two people were injured, in a head-on crash Friday in south Charlotte.

The driver of a blue 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, identified by investigators as 32-year-old Mitchell Virgulti, crossed over the center line and struck a 2012 Ford Econoline van head-on, according to officials.

"Speed and impairment appear to be factors for the driver of the Jeep," CMPD said in a released statement. "It is unknown if speed or impairment is a factor for the driver of the Ford. Toxicology results are pending for both drivers."

Virgulti and the driver of the Ford van both died as a result of the crash. The driver of the van has not yet been publically identified pending notification of family.

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash. A 2009 Hyundai Genesis appeared to rear-end the Ford van. The driver and passenger in the Hyundai, who police did not publically identify, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about this case is asked to contact Detective Buckley at 704-432-2169, extension 6.  The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/
