WCNC Charlotte wins 2 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

WCNC Charlotte will now compete against other regional Murrow winners in each category for a National Edward R. Murrow Award.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has been named the recipient of two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. The awards are for a series of innovative weather reports and a compilation of stories in the overall digital category.

The WCNC Weather Team won in Excellence in Innovation for its ability to bring weather to life. WCNC Charlotte’s Weather IQ series is comprised of detailed explainers from the station's meteorologists to help you learn and understand weather, climate and science. You can watch previous stories where you can raise your Weather IQ on YouTube and subscribe to get updated when new videos are uploaded.

The team’s award-winning digital entry, which highlights WCNC’s focus on adding context and depth to the stories on all platforms, includes various reports across the content spectrum. One featured was Nate Morabito's investigation into the backlog of pending VA appeals cases and how it has left veterans waiting years for their disability payments. The digital entry also included the station's months-long investigation into the paycheck delays at Gaston County Schools, its coverage of the catastrophic five-alarm fire in SouthPark, the massive house explosion in Mooresville and WCNC Charlotte Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich's winter snow outlook.

Murrow Award.  Among the most prestigious in news, the Murrow Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold ethical standards, demonstrate technical expertise and the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community according to the Radio Television Digital News Association.
