Throughout the month of January WCNC Charlotte and Goodwill are encouraging viewers to collect items and make donations every week.
Sam Story and Stephanie Murray joined Charlotte Today to discuss how donations to Goodwill truly make a difference in so many ways!

Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont opened its doors in 1965 as an independent Goodwill affiliate agency with fewer than 20 employees. Today they are proud to be a 21st century leader in regional workforce development and employer of more than 1,000 people. “Goodwill is a nonprofit organization that connects people to opportunities to find gainful employment and meaningful work” says Story. She adds ” here is how it works: Once you’re organized, you’ll be in a perfect position to donate what you no longer need to your local Goodwill. Those items will then be sold to fund career training courses, job search support, family stability services and more – all of which we offer free of charge to thousands of people in our community each year.

“These free program offered by Goodwill has helped me when I was looking for a career change” says Murray. Murray adds “I linked up with the Goodwill IT program and listen to the instructors and was able to add skills like Java and other IT related programs to my resume.” “Goodwill then connected me with employers who were looking for some of those soft IT skills and I was able to land the job. My entire life has turned around because of Goodwill.”

“As a reminder your donated items make a difference” says Story. Not only will your efforts help you be better organized, less stressed and more productive, but they’ll also help someone else in your community. For more information visit Goodwillsp.org.
