4 home internet mistakes you’re probably making

Know the difference between a modem and router? If not, that could be a problem.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When your home internet goes down, it can be tough to figure out why. The truth is, there are a number of reasons for your internet connection to stop working and you could, unintentionally, be one of them!

Here are 4 home internet mistakes you might be making without even knowing it, according to the Washington Post:

Not knowing your equipment

A modem is connected to a cable jack and brings an internet connection into your home. A router connects to the modem to bring devices online via WiFi.

Hiding the WiFi router

Even if you don’t think it matches your home décor, experts say the router should be in the heart of your home in order to get a solid connection to all devices.

Not buying your own equipment

Rather than paying a monthly fee to rent equipment from your internet provider, buy your own to save money.

Paying for the highest internet speed

Don’t be fooled by fancy promotions luring you into spending more per month for the highest speed offered. Experts say basic high-speed internet is all most households need.
