CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In this economy and a housing market with prices through the roof, buying a first home can be out of reach for some people. One Charlotte organization, Inlivian, is changing all of that.
More than a year ago, Erica McNair put the vision of becoming a homeowner out into the universe. Fast forward to December 2023, and she's still breathing in that new house smell.
"I knew it was going to come, I just didn't know when,", she told WCNC Charlotte anchor Colin Mayfield. "On my vision board, I put homeownership and a picture of this house."
Her journey started by completing Inlivian's Destination Homeownership Program. She wanted to find her dream home, and she would not be deterred.
McNair explained, "At that time the market was hot and people were paying $20,000, $30,000, even $40,000 over asking prices."
Inlivian serves the residents and families of its properties to bring homeownership into view. Much of that is through support, programming, and pure hard work to attain the American dream. The organization partners with groups like Habitat for Humanity and supportive lenders that work with clients.
Shannon Burns, the Homeownership Program Manager told us that it's all about creating wealth.
"The average income for individuals to live in the city of Charlotte is not conducive to meeting the requirements to purchase a home.", Burns detailed.
It's a dream for many that Inlivian is bringing to fruition.
