I quit: How the Carolinas' resignation rate stack up nationwide

South Carolina is in the top three states for resignations, researchers found, citing lingering effects of the "great resignation."

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new report from WalletHub is taking a look at which states have the most job resignations and the Carolinas couldn't be much more different.

North Carolina is pretty low on the list, coming in at No. 39. South Carolina, on the other hand, ranked third overall. The Palmetto State came in with a 2.98% job resignation rate in the last 12 months.

As for the reason why, researchers cited lingering effects from the so-called "great resignation," when millions of Americans quit their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers used several reasons to seek greener pastures, including a lack of benefits, poor working conditions, stagnant wages and inflexible schedules. Industries like health care and hospitality were particularly impacted, with millions of workers calling it quits while dealing with unprecedented burnout at the pandemic's peak.

Although the great resignation is now over, workers in some states are quitting their jobs more frequently than employees in other states.
