Billy Graham's childhood church listed for sale

Rev. Billy Graham attended Chalmers Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with his parents, who later founded Charlotte's Calvary Church.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The site of Rev. Billy Graham's childhood church is up for sale, according to the real estate firm in charge of the listing.

MPV Properties confirmed it is representing the sale of 1800 South Blvd. in Charlotte. The property, at the corner of South Boulevard and East Boulevard, is home to Grace Covenant Church. The chapel was formerly known as Chalmers Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church

The half-acre plot is in the heart of South End at what MPV calls the "intersection of Main and Main." The property listing says the lot can be considered for a "variety of dense infill development" uses. Some possible uses include a hotel, apartments, office and retail space.

Graham attended the church well into his teens with his parents, according to the Billy Graham Library. Graham's parents later founded what eventually became Calvary Church

"After Billy left for college, his parents were part of a large group of families who founded Calvary Presbyterian Church, originally located on East Fourth Street," the Billy Graham Library posted on Facebook in 2016. "Billy preached one of his early sermons from the pulpit of that church (later renamed simply Calvary Church), and his parents remained active members until their deaths."

Rev. Billy Graham's procession stopped briefly in front of his childhood church en route to the Billy Graham Library.

Graham's funeral motorcade procession drew large crowds after his death, with thousands lining the streets to pay their final respects. The motorcade briefly stopped in front of the church, which is about 5 miles from where Graham's childhood home stood.
