Dogs fighting in Fort Mill backyard leads to 2 arrests

When officers spoke to the two people in the home, they found a "large number of dogs and other animals" inside.

FORT MILL, S.C. — Fort Mill Police Department arrested two people on Tuesday in connection to a deadly dogfight.

A witness saw multiple dogs fighting in the backyard of 400 Unity St. in northeast Fort Mill around noon. The witness told police she noticed one of the dogs "bite a puppy around the neck in an attempt to kill it."

When they got to the scene, they found one dead puppy in the yard. 

When officers spoke to the two people in the home, they found a "large number of dogs and other animals" inside. The police report states the animals "appeared to be malnourished" and had "deplorable living conditions."

York County Animal Control helped with the investigation and took all the animals at the property. It is not known at this time how many animals were seized. 

Both suspects were charged with two counts of animal cruelty on Wednesday and are being held at the York County Detention Center.
