'Why?' | Father of Chester teen killed in shooting in disbelief at losing son

Connie Di'rose Miller has been arrested and charged with murder.

CHESTER, S.C. — A Chester County teen's family is still in disbelief after he was shot and killed Tuesday night.

Chester Police said its officers responded to a shooting near Spring Street and Gadsden Street a little before midnight on Tuesday night. When they arrived, they found a teen performing CPR on a 16-year-old.

That teen, later identified as Donovan Browning, was pronounced dead at the scene. Chester police arrested 18-year-old Connie Di'rose Miller in connection with Browning's death. Miller is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

On Thursday, Donovan's father Donald Browning returned to the same spot where his son was killed.

"You get a feeling from here, you feel something in this spot," he said.

Donovan's family recalled the moments his life ended during an emotional scene Thursday. He was the youngest of seven children and was a twin brother. Donald Browning says his family is in utter disbelief and can't help but question why this happened.

"I always would preach to Donovan and Dory, it ain't you. It's these people in the streets that you've really got to watch out for," Donald said. "But all I ask to myself over and over and over again ... Why?"

"My brother was dead," Justin McClurkin, Donovan's brother, said. "I was like, 'Whoa, not my little brother.' I'm hurt, deeply hurt."

Donovan's family said no outcome will ever mend their broken hearts or the system.

"This is what happens when people can walk into a store and buy a gun or get a gun from Craigslist without having to register it," Correll Kennedy, Donovan's oldest brother, said.

For now, the family is preparing to bury their youngest child all while being buried in their grief.

"I'm going to miss everything about him," Donald said.

The family said they'll continue to fight for justice and are considering asking lawmakers to take action before another family experiences this kind of tragedy.
