Neighbors Dealing With Red Dust from Greensboro Road Construction

A red dust is covering cars, plants, porches and the outside of homes. It's coming from the Urban loop construction off Lawndale Drive in Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY)-- Community members living near the Urban Loop road construction are complaining about red dust from the project.

Homeowner JoJo Brady has dealt with the red dust for more than a year.

"My car is always orange, always orange. You can wash it one day and the next day it is orange again. I have soot and dirt underneath the, the roof, the gutters of my house. It's just been miserable," says Brady.

Patty Eason, Division Construction Engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation says the contractor is using water trucks to help combat the dust.

"We're in a very dry spell here in this area so as soon as they probably drive from one end to the other and get water down, it's dry where they started from and so it's just almost a continual process," says Eason.

Brady hopes it'll all pay off in the end when the urban loop is finished. "I think that in the long run of things that it will help, but during the duration it's miserable," says Brady.

Eason says she reached out to the contractor to let him know they need to increase the number of water trucks on site and how often they spray.
