CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Vice President Joe Biden is projected to win North Carolina's Democratic Primary, according to NBC News. The projection was made just minutes after polls closed across the state.
Biden came away with 43% of the vote Tuesday in North Carolina, some 568,578 votes. Senator Bernie Sanders came in second in the state, with 24% of the vote or 318,772 ballots.
North Carolina has 110 delegates at stake and is considered one of the swing states for the 2020 election.
All of those delegates will go to Biden, with along with big wins in other states, now finds himself ahead of Sanders in the democratic delegate race.
Just days prior, Biden had a sweeping win in South Carolina's Democratic Primary.
With five Democratic candidates still running on Super Tuesday, many are expecting Tuesday's results to define a clear front-runner.
During his victory speech Tuesday in Los Angeles, Biden found himself momentarily interrupted when two protesters stormed the stage.
Millions of voters in 14 states from Maine to California headed to the polls on Super Tuesday, a day rich with delegates in the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination. About one-third of the delegates -- 1,357 -- were up for grabs.
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont seized victory in Tuesday’s biggest prize, California. A resurgent former Vice President Joe Biden won the most states, mostly in the African-American strongholds in the south.
