Cam Newton kicks off 2nd year of Un1ted As 1 program

The program “aims to teach middle-school students to embrace diversity and ignite social change.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton continued his UN1TED AS 1 program with a kickoff event for 32 Charlotte middle schoolers and their families on Tuesday night.

The program, now in its second year, “aims to teach middle school students to embrace diversity and ignite social change.”

The students, all from different backgrounds, gathered with their families for dinner and conversation at Camp North End.

During the event, Newton spoke to the students about his own experiences with diversity from his days as a high school student in Atlanta to playing college football with a diverse group of teammates.

“Difference is OK," Newton said. "Something that was extremely rewarding for me was to be in a room full of differences and for everyone in that room to leave understanding any situation better."

The students will later embark on two full days of the program on March 30 and 31 at Levine Museum of the New South.
