Heads up: Lane closures planned in Concord this week

The City of Concord Transportation Department will begin work on April 19 to replace traffic signals at the intersections of Union St, Cabarrus Ave, and Corban Ave.

CONCORD, N.C. — Beginning, Monday, April 19, the City of Concord Transportation Department began replacing traffic signals at the intersections of Union Street and Cabarrus Avenue, as well as Union Street and Corban Avenue.

Below is the planned work schedule and lane closures. Each closure is expected to last one day, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., weather permitting.

  • Monday, April 19: Union St. N at Cabarrus Ave. (between The Bead Lady and The View at Hotel Concord). 
  • Tuesday, April 20: Union St. S at Cabarrus Ave. (between Chocolatier Barrucand and Concord Travel & Tax Services). 
  • Wednesday, April 21:  Cabarrus Ave. W at Union St (between The Bead Lady and Concord Travel & Tax Services). 
  • Thursday, April 22: Union St. S at Corban Ave. (between the Bond Office and the County Courthouse). 
  • Friday, April 23: Work may continue on this day if needed due to earlier weather delays.
  • Monday, April 26: Corban Ave. SW at Union St. S (between the Bond Office and St. James Lutheran Church).
  • Tuesday, April, 27: Corban Ave. SE at Union St. S (between Rotary Square and the County Courthouse). 
  • Wednesday, April 28: Work may continue on this day if needed due to earlier weather delays.

This work will result in daily lane closures. Traffic officials urge drivers to exercise caution and follow signed detour routes when traveling downtown.
