CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After five years of campaigning and raising more than $15 million, the Humane Society of Charlotte is very close to opening the doors of its new facility.
WCNC Charlotte's Larry Sprinkle got a sneak peek inside as the finishing touches are being put on the new center, which will be located at 1348 Parker Drive off of Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte.
“We are thrilled to open this one-of-a-kind destination for animal lovers and advocates from across the region,” president and chief executive officer of the Humane Society of Charlotte Shelly Moore said.
Chief philanthropy officer of the Humane Society of Charlotte Donna Canzano Stucker said it's going to be a dream come true.
“It's over 26,000 square feet, and we have an education center, medical clinic and adoption center," Stucker said.
With the number of animals the facility cares for growing, an updated facility was needed. The new center will have features like climate-controlled areas, plexiglass dog suites and three times to amount of free-roaming cat space with access to the outdoors.

The staff is looking forward to sharing the facility with the community.
The grand opening is expected later in May, but on Saturday, the organization will host a Pet Palooza in the parking lot of the new facility.
