CMPD identifies man killed in south Charlotte shooting

According to police, the incident happened in the 2000 block of El Verano Circle.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In an update to the news media on April 1, 2021, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department announced they had classified this case as a "justified homicide." The case had been reviewed by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office and concurs with the detectives' decision to not charge anyone in the case, according to CMPD.

Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in south Charlotte Wednesday night. 

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of El Verano Circle a little before 11 p.m. When officers got to the area, they found a man dead from a gunshot wound. 

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Joshua Bennett Fleming. Wednesday would've been Fleming's birthday, according to police. 

CMPD said their preliminary investigation indicates Fleming and the shooter knew each other. So far, no arrests have been made and CMPD have not released any suspect information.

No further information was released by police. Any person with information about this shooting or any other incident is asked to call CMPD's Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
