What led up to the shooting was not immediately known. Details remained very limited Friday.

Concerns linger about a disturbing trend of violence in areas where it hasn't been seen before. The incident not sitting well with Take Back Our Hoods member Kasei Canfora. Canfora's daughter was brutally murdered in 2020, and Canfora is still searching for justice. She said she's seen what she believes is part of the problem.

"In those neighborhoods, there was already a lot of struggle going on," she said. "Housing issues, broken families. It's kind of forcing us to look at it, especially those that didn't before."

Whether it's NoDa or the 4th Ward, Canfora wants to see a proactive approach with community members on the ground working hand-in-hand with city leaders. She said until that happens, the violence will continue to pop up.
