CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced Tuesday that detectives made an arrest in connection with Charlotte's first homicide of 2019. 

On January 1, CMPD was called to a home on Highlander Court off Gibbon Road for a shooting. When police got to the house, they found Carnis Ferdinand Poindexter shot to death on his front porch. 

At the time, CMPD did not release any suspect information but said they had been called to the home in the past. On Tuesday, detectives announced that 19-year-old Furquan Ali Thompson was charged with first-degree murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with Poindexter's death.
