CHARLOTTE, N.C. — You don't need to cross the pond to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea.
For the past 10 years, the luxurious Ballantyne Hotel has been offering the British tradition as a way to relax and enjoy the afternoon with a great cup of tea. In the 1800s, the British thought the break between lunch and dinner was a bit long, thus the creation of afternoon tea.
"It helps to put something in your tummy and enjoy a cup of tea," said a Ballantyne spokesperson.
The tradition lives on every Thursday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For $45, you get to choose your tea and plenty of delicious handmade pastries. The selection of sweets varies from French macarons to the Ballantyne's signature fluffy scones, which they say really top off the tea.
And don't worry, there's no required etiquette at the Ballantyne. No matter the occasion, you're always welcome to dress your best and enjoy a taste of British culture.
