CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was a big day for every student at Westery Hills Academy in Charlotte.
The students each picked five books to keep and bring home, Lynnetta Witherspoon, the literacy counselor for the school, explained to WCNC Charlotte's Larry Sprinkle.
"They are excited," she said. "They are excited because it's their books they get to have."
Witherspoon and others hope the students use these books to read over the upcoming summer vacation.
Each student is also receiving a special WCNC Charlotte Weather IQ bookmark, which allows them to download the educational and interactive learning material. The booklet is also available here.
The event was organized with Promising Pages, a local organization that has provided more than 65,000 to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
