Duke, NC State among 50 best colleges for graduate salaries, study finds

CNBC calculated the "true net cost" of each college for a typical student, including tuition, fees, books and supplies after subtracting scholarships and grants.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you went to Duke University or North Carolina State University, chances are your education is paying off. 

The two North Carolina schools are ranked among the 50 best universities where students make the most money after graduation, according to CNBC. The financial network came up with the list by comparing the average tuition to the median salaries earned by alumni.

For the study, CNBC said they calculated the "true net cost" of each college for a typical student, which includes tuition, fees, books, supplies and other expenses after subtracting scholarships and grants. This number was set for families making between $48,001 and $75,000 annually. 

Duke was ranked the 10th best private university in the country, with a median salary of $68,700 for alumni with up to five years experience in their chosen field. The media salary for those with at least 10 years of experience is $133,100 stacked against an average cost of $7,880 per student.

NC State, which enrolls roughly 35,400 students, was the 22nd ranked public college in America. CNBC calculated an average net cost of $13,244 per student and graduates with up to five years of experience had a median salary of $55,800. The median salary for alumni with 10 years of experience in their career is $104,700.
