Police: Victim sexually assaulted while walking with another woman in uptown

Police said 21-year-old Jordan Bryson-Antonio Douglas threatened both victims and sexually assaulted one of them.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested and charged a man after police say he robbed and assaulted two women walking in uptown. 

According to police, at around 4:00 a.m.two adult women were walking near a construction area in the 700 block of W. 6th St. when they were approached by 21-year-old Jordan Bryson-Antonio Douglas who was armed with a gun.  

Police said Douglas threatened both victims and sexually assaulted one of them. According to police he also robbed the victims of their belongings and fired the gun during the commission of this crime, however, neither victim was shot. 

At 4:07 a.m., 911 received a call from a concerned citizen who heard the victims yelling for help and the gunshot. Central Division Officers immediately responded and located Douglas, who ran from officers.  Responding officers chased the suspect and were able to apprehend him and recover a firearm. 

Detectives with the CMPD’s Sexual Assault Unit responded to investigate. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The sex assault victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Douglas was transported to an area hospital due to minor injuries he received during the struggle with one of the victims. He was released from the hospital and transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed.  At the conclusion of the interview, detectives charged Douglas with 2 counts of a first degree sex offense, 2 counts of first-degree kidnapping, 2 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He was then transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
