North Meck hoops star signs with Duke Blue Devils

Isaiah Evans is a five-star recruiting prospect

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Five-star basketball prospect Isaiah Evans has been committed to Duke for a while, but made it official on Monday afternoon, signing his National Letter of Intent to play for the Blue Devils next year.

Evans, a 6-foot-6 small forward, is ranked the No. 11 prospect in the country by 247Sports, and scored 62 points in a single game last season.

"He has the work ethic. If I told him I was going to pick him up at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning he'd say 'ok let's roll," North Meck coach Duane Lewis said. "He's hungry. He's always played with a little bit of a chip, which all the great ones have."

Evans initially played on North Meck's JV team, but pushed himself to improve every year, and is now one of the nation's top high school players, heading to one of the best programs in college basketball.

"It's unbelievable," he said. "Dudes dream about this. Being able to put on for my mom, and my little brother and my grandma, it just shows that trusting the process, putting your head down and putting the work in, it's all going to pay off."

Evans' mom Marieke Lemon was even sporting some Blue Devil horns for the signing ceremony.

"It's all surreal. That's my baby," she said. "Me and Isaiah have been together since I was 21. So it's nice seeing him where he is now and seeing him enjoy the fruits of his labor."
